Advantages of a collaborative project
Europe is currently the most important host of collaborative research. And this is for many good reasons. Networking between research partners and across research disciplines has a number of advantages
- Better access to funds
- Better access to expertise, equipment and resources
- Recognition and prestige
- Clear focus and work plan
- Better efficiency and productivity
Advantages of coordinating a project
In FP 7 the Commission is opting for a lower number of partners in consortia; there is greater focus on smaller projects. With the increased overall budget for research funding this of course means that many more projects will be funded. The demand for personalities able to coordinate these projects is great. The coordinator has a number of tasks, yet with adequate support in the management and administration of a project the effort is well worth it.
- You can steer the direction your field is taking at the international level.
- You gain direct access to officials and experts at EU level.
- You create an international network at the forefront of science.
- You form contacts for yourself and the young upstarts in your team, lasting beyond the life-time of the project.
- You contribute to the societal and individual well-being of European citizens.
The coordinator acts as a contact person for the EU Commission with regard to all administrative, financial and scientific concerns. But coordinators can opt to carry out these tasks in cooperation with their project management partner.
