Framework Programme

The European Framework Programme is unique in its scope as the world’s largest programme supporting research, technological development and demonstration. It comprises activities carried out at EU level to finance and promote research.

7th Framework Programme  - key facts

  • To run for a period of seven years, from 2007 to 2013.
  • There is an overall budget of approx. EURO 50 billion of which more than 60% will be devoted to supporting cooperation between universities, industry, research centres and public authorities.
  • The activities have been grouped into four specific programmes:
    
   
 

Most important changes compared to FP6

  • Simplification of the definition of eligible costs
  • New funding rates
  • Introduction of certificates on methodology and financial statements
  • Establishment of the European Research Council (ERC)
